Special Education

In this class the students are taught Career Awareness by going each month to different business that they may work at some day and learn about the types of jobs it has to offer. Academics include functional reading, math and computer skills, and hands on activities. The class shops at Food Plus and the Dollar Store for one of the hands on activities. Once a month the class volunteers at the Sebastian Co. Humane Society. Students also gain vocational training and experience by performing cafeteria, dining room and custodial jobs within the school and selected businesses in the school and neighborhood. Students have the opportunity to utilize community facilities by visiting the public library, museums, parks and special events. The class is also involved in the Special Olympics, bowling, volleyball and skating with Van Buren and Alma's CBI classes.
